Meso (middle) therapy is a specialty in which FDA approved pharmaceuticals and vitamins are mixed with homeopathic agents and injected into areas of fat and cellulite to improve the appearance of the areas targeted. This science was brought to this country in 1999 by Dr. Lionel Bissoon who travelled to Europe to learn the therapy from Dr. Pistore, a French physician who developed the art over 50 years ago. Dr. Mussenden was personally trained by Dr. Bissoon in the treatment of cellulite and fat deposits using mesotherapy.

HOW DO THE SUBSTANCES WORK?

For fat deposits, the formulas Dr. Mussenden uses are designed to stimulate the breakdown of the individual fat cells. Small needles are used to inject minute amounts of medication over the area to be reduced or sculpted. The formulas for cellulite are designed to breaK up the collagen that causes the dimpling and then to dissolve the fat around the dimple and improve circulation.

HOW LONG BEFORE I SEE RESULTS?

The resolution of fat deposits varies based on the amount of fat being treated as well as how quickly the medication works in your body. You will often notice a change after several visits. Some areas completely resolve in 10 sessions or less. Others require more visits.

WHAT ARE THE SIDE EFFECTS?

There may be allergic skin reactions to some of the agents used, so for that reason, Dr. Mussenden performs allergy testing of 2 of the substances that are more likely to be problematic. This is done during your consultation visit. If you have a positive skin reaction, alternative substances will be used. Bruising is a more common side effect that resolves spontaneously. Positive side effects from mesotherapy can be tightening of the skin and lightening of pigmented surgical scars. The appearance of wrinkles and stretch marks is often improved.

WHAT ARE THE COSTS?

Your consultation with Dr. Mussenden is $50.00 and is paid BEFORE your visit. This fee reserves your time with our doctor. During your consultation, Dr. Mussenden will review your history in depth to ascertain that you have no contraindications to the procedure. She will evaluate the areas of your body that are problematic for you. If mesotherapy is determined to be appropriate for you, allergy testing will be performed and you will be given printed information on restrictions before and after your treatments. If you choose to proceed with treatment, we will discuss the projected cost for the number of sessions anitcipated. Financing is available if desired.
